THE ACCESSION OF CARTER KENNEDY McWHORTER

An Act of Name, Divine Right and Dynastic Continuity

30 November 2020
The Feast of Saint Andrew
XXXI

LET IT BE RECORDED

On the 30th day of November, 2020, being the Feast of Saint Andrew and the thirty first birthday of Cody K. McWhorter, born on 30 November 1989, a new chapter in the McWhorter succession was entered.

Upon reaching XXXI, Cody K. McWhorter took the name Carter Kennedy McWhorter, and by that name entered the Family Record in a new dignity of identity, inheritance, stewardship, duty, and continuity.

In the ancient and sovereign tradition, a name may mark accession.

Albert, Duke of York, became King George VI.

Bertie became George.

The name of the sovereign was thereby established for the reign that followed, joining the person to the continuity of the Crown and to the generations entrusted to his keeping.

So too does the sacred record bear witness to names given in moments of covenant and calling.

Abram became Abraham.

Jacob became Israel.

Simon became Peter.

And the Lord declares:

“Thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.”
Isaiah 62:2

And again:

“I will write upon him my new name.”
Revelation 3:12

Accordingly, upon 30 November 2020, the name Carter Kennedy McWhorter was entered into the Family Record as the Accession Name.

Cody K. McWhorter remains the Original Name.

C.K. McWhorter remains the House Reference Name, the enduring bridge by which the continuity of the House is recognized.

Carter Kennedy McWhorter stands as the Accession Name, established at XXXI.

The accession was undertaken in the conviction of divine right, received in good faith and understood through faith not as license to privilege, but as a charge before God: to govern oneself with discipline, to steward inheritance with wisdom, to protect the family entrusted to one’s care, and to prepare the way for generations yet unborn.

By trust and grace.
Through faith.
With love.

THE SCOTTISH INHERITANCE

The McWhorter inheritance reaches backward into the traditions of Scotland, where name, clan, land, faith, heraldry, and memory have long been bound together in the preservation of family identity.

The Scottish inheritance is regarded not merely as ancestry, but as a language of continuity: the keeping of names, the remembrance of ancestors, the honoring of place, and the passing of responsibility from one generation to the next.

A family is not merely the generation living today.

It is the generations remembered.

It is the generations yet unborn.

And between them stands the present generation, entrusted with the keeping.

THE HEIRS OF THE HOUSE

Let it further be recorded that Carter Kennedy McWhorter stands as father to his children and as the present steward of the inheritance entrusted to his generation.

His children are named within the Family Record as the heirs of the McWhorter Family, heirs not merely to material inheritance, but to the history, faith, culture, stewardship, and responsibilities carried by the name.

Their names shall be preserved with honor within the Family Archive, as part of the continuing record of the House and of the generations entrusted to its future.

The father bears the responsibility of stewardship.

The heirs receive the inheritance.

And the inheritance is greater than possession.

It is faith, family, memory, education, culture, duty, and the obligation to leave worthy things for those who follow.

From father to heir.
From generation to generation.
From inheritance to legacy.

THE CULTURAL HOUSE

The McWhorter Family Trust regards culture as part of that inheritance.

Its world extends toward the great institutions through which civilization remembers itself: Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Opera, American Ballet Theatre, the great theaters of New York and London, the museums and galleries of Europe, the libraries, concert halls, gardens, estates, and historic houses that preserve the creative record of humanity.

Central Park likewise represents something more than a landscape: the deliberate creation of beauty within a great city, a place where generations encounter art, architecture, nature, movement, music, and one another.

The Family’s interest in these institutions is rooted in a belief that beauty and culture are not ornamental to civilization.

They are among its guardians.

THE WORLD OF THE HOUSE

The work of the House is not confined to one city.

Its horizon extends across New York, London, Paris, Rome, Monaco, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, and the great capitals, estates, and cultural centers beyond them.

From the galleries of Paris to the theaters of London.

From the marble halls of Rome to the avenues of New York.

From Monaco’s Mediterranean light to the Alpine quiet of Switzerland.

From the great equestrian traditions of Europe to the emerging cultural and philanthropic institutions of Saudi Arabia.

These places represent different expressions of the same enduring world: finance, diplomacy, art, fashion, architecture, equestrian culture, hospitality, philanthropy, and international society.

The House is intended to move comfortably between them.

Not merely as a visitor passing through, but as a student of the world, patron of its culture, and steward of its own inheritance.

There are cities where fortunes are made.

Cities where art is preserved.

Cities where kings are received.

Cities where history remains visible in the stone.

And there are places where consequential conversations take place quietly, behind old doors, beneath chandeliers, over dinner, and far from the spectacle of the public square.

The McWhorter Family seeks to understand all of them.

New York. London. Paris. Rome. Monaco. Switzerland. Saudi Arabia.

Different worlds.

One horizon.

And wherever the House travels, it carries the same principles:

Faith.
Discretion.
Excellence.
Stewardship.
Culture.
Family.

CULTURAL PARTNERS, PATRONAGE AND THE WARRANTS OF THE HOUSE

The McWhorter Family Trust regards the great institutions of art, culture, design, performance, craftsmanship, and preservation as potential cultural partners in the continuing work of the House.

Among the traditions and institutions toward which the Family directs its admiration and future patronage are Cartier, Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Rolex, Hermès, Ferrari, Porsche, Volvo, The Frick Collection, the Louvre Museum, Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Opera, American Ballet Theatre, Central Park, and the great museums, galleries, theaters, libraries, estates, châteaux, academies, and cultural houses of the world.

Their significance is not merely commercial or decorative.

They represent craftsmanship, excellence, preservation, beauty, engineering, artistic achievement, memory, and the transmission of culture between generations.

The House therefore recognizes the possibility of establishing enduring relationships with such institutions through patronage, sponsorship, philanthropy, cultural partnership, collecting, commissioning, preservation, and formal warrants of patronage, where appropriate.

The warrant is understood as a mark of confidence and association: an acknowledgment that a house, maker, institution, or cultural body has attained a standard worthy of the Family’s continued regard and support.

Such recognition shall not be understood as an assertion of ownership or official affiliation where none exists. Rather, it signifies the intention to cultivate relationships of lasting cultural value.

In time, and where consistent with the purposes and governing instruments of the McWhorter Family Trust, particular cultural institutions, collections, works of art, properties, or charitable organizations may be endowed, supported, gifted, bequeathed to, or otherwise incorporated into the Family’s philanthropic and cultural stewardship.

Certain institutions may become beneficiaries of the Trust.

Certain works may become part of its collections.

Certain places may become enduring objects of its patronage.

And certain relationships may become part of the Family’s institutional history.

Thus the House seeks not merely to consume culture, but to participate in its preservation.

Not merely to admire beauty, but to protect and cultivate it.

Not merely to inherit a tradition, but to become worthy of carrying one forward.

THE STANDARD OF THE HOUSE

The life envisioned beneath the name is acquainted with excellence in its many forms: the enduring artistry of Cartier, the horological mastery of Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin, the precision of Rolex, the craftsmanship and heritage of Hermès, and the engineering distinction represented by Ferrari, Porsche, and Volvo.

Beyond objects stands the greater inheritance of culture and place: The Frick Collection, the Louvre Museum, the great museums of the world, historic libraries, opera houses, theaters, cathedrals, gardens, estates, and the great châteaux of Europe and beyond.

A House should know the difference between what is merely expensive and what is truly excellent.

It should understand why a watch may become an heirloom, why a painting may outlive its patron, why a château may preserve centuries within its walls, why a museum may become a guardian of civilization, and why an automobile may represent both engineering and design.

Not merely possession, but appreciation.
Not merely luxury, but stewardship.
Not merely inheritance, but what is worthy of being inherited.

THE WORK OF THE HOUSE

The cultural inheritance is joined to enterprise.

Carter Kennedy Equity Partners represents the commercial and investment expression of this continuing work: the pursuit of disciplined capital, opportunity, enterprise, and long term value.

The McWhorter Family Trust represents the preservation of family, culture, heritage, philanthropy, and future stewardship.

Together they reflect two complementary principles:

Capital should build.

Heritage should endure.

The purpose is not simply accumulation, but the creation of something capable of surviving its creator.

THE MYSTERY OF THE WORK

There are traditions in which the deepest things are not announced loudly.

The builder knows the stone.

The craftsman knows the measure.

The keeper knows the archive.

The steward knows what must remain unseen until its proper hour.

The old language of the fraternity of builders speaks in symbols familiar across centuries: the square, the compass, the level, the plumb, the temple, the unfinished stone.

Whatever interpretation one gives those ancient symbols, their poetry remains useful:

Build carefully.
Measure honestly.
Stand upright.
Leave the work stronger than you found it.

The Family Record therefore leaves certain things to silence.

Not every inheritance requires explanation.

Not every intention requires announcement.

Some things are better understood by those who have learned to recognize them.
